Alcohols and Halogenoalkanes

The Alcohols and Halogenoalkanes Flexible Learning Pack covers the chemistry of alcohols (R-OH) and halogenoalkanes (R-X) and allows students to work through various aspects of the topic in a structured manner. The pack also includes topics to be introduced in the 2008 specifications.

This pack is split into two sections:

• 'Alcohols' - nomenclature, physical properties, preparation, reactions, physiological effects, hazard & risk.
• 'Halogenoalkanes' - nomenclature, physical properties, elimination and nucleophilic substitution reactions (including S_N1 and S_N2 mechanisms), optical isomerism, the ozone layer and CFCs.
