Colin Johnson studied at the Salford School of Art and Manchester College of Art. He set up his first studio in Manchester in 1960 but after many visits to St Ives he moved to Cornwall in 1986. His work encompasses a range of genres, particularly the landscape observed on extensive travels around Europe and America. A primary inspiration is the British coastline and its harbours. Colin has regularly participated as artist-in-residence at Festivals, including the Manchester International and the City of London Festivals, amongst others. He also created and directed the Swinton & Pendelbury (1973), Bolton (1979), Teignmouth (1996) and St Ives, September Fringe Festivals (2000–2004). His work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in major galleries throughout his career and it is in many municipal and private collections. He has carried out many notable commissions and contributed to articles to a number of publications.
This exhibition incorporates musically themed work and is part of a UK tour celebrating 50 years of his artistic achievement.
