Visiting the Department

Prospective Students

After applications are received through UCAS, the Department invites all promising applicants to visit the University. During this visit you will meet staff and students and will be shown round the Department and the University. You will also have an interview and will be given a few straightforward tests. These include:

If you are applying for the new degree course in Creative Music Technology (the 'D' Course) you will be given a special test which will ask a number of questions closely related to the subject areas of the new programme. You should bring along examples of any music you have created or edited using computers or in a recording studio.

At interview you will probably be asked about your general background, your musical experience and any music you have studied or heard recently. The interview is an excellent opportunity for you to get to know us: come prepared with questions if you like. After all, we want you to go away after your day at Surrey with a clear idea of whether or not the Department is one in which you would be keen to study.

In addition to these interview days, there are several University Open Days throughout the year for both 'A', 'C' and 'D' Course applicants and their parents (details available from the University's Marketing and Communications Office).
