Using Feedback
[graphic]

When your essay is returned to you, it will probably have some written comments from your tutors. It is worth taking some time to examine their feedback so you can improve in future essays. Tutors may indicate some of the specific things they were looking for in the essay, which allows you to build these in next time around. When you get feedback from a tutor, take some time to:

  • Read or listen carefully to the points being made.
  • Check that you understand the comments. If you aren't sure, ask.
  • Discuss with your tutor areas on which to concentrate for your next essay.
  • Categorise the comments made. For example, are there any comments on your referencing, or on the development of your argument? This tells you what to improve next time.
  • Reread your feedback and any notes you make before your next essay.
  • Produce an action plan based on feedback and on your views of what needs improving.
