How To Apply

University Managed Houses are let as a whole house to a group of students, so you will need to form a group with the people you would like to live with. Most of the houses available have four bedrooms, so you will have a larger range of properties to choose from if you are in a group of four.

The Application Process

  1. Decide who in your housemate group will be the lead tenant/group leader.
  2. Go to StudentPad, where the University Managed Houses are advertised.
  3. For the 'type of accommodation' drop down list, select 'University Managed House/Flat'. You will need to select the number of bedrooms appropriate to the size of your group. Click on the 'Search Now' button.
  4. You will need to enter the password, which will be emailed to all students from the Office of the President of the Students' Union around the 1st February. At any other time please request the password by sending an email including your name and University number to pms@surrey.ac.uk
  5. Download and print an Application Form, or collect one from Accommodation Services. You only need one form for your group. The form has detailed instructions for completion printed on it.
  6. Choose your preferred houses, and write them on your application form. It is advisable to choose houses from a variety of areas as most groups will choose the houses closest to Stag Hill Campus.
  7. Return your completed application form to Accommodation Services. If you are away from Guildford on placement you can still apply for managed houses and may fax the form to us, or email it to pms@surrey.ac.uk
  8. After the closing date for applications, two groups will be randomly selected to visit and view each house, and the group leaders will be notified by email. The first group drawn will be offered the tenancy, with the second group as reserves if the first group decide not to take it. Every housemate group that has applied will receive an email whether successful or unsuccessful.
  9. Successful groups have a weekend to view the house and confirm, in writing, whether they want it. The first choice groups have first call.
  10. If neither group takes the tenancy, the house will be readvertised on StudentPad for other groups to apply on a first-come first-served basis.
