Dance students at the University of Surrey invite audiences to see a wide range of dance performances, ranging from Contemporary to Ballet, African, Kathak and Hip Hop.
Always a wonderful finale to the year, these shows are a fantastic opportunity to see young emerging choreographers and dancers to showcase and celebrate their exciting new work.
The evening will include brand new pieces choreographed by Surrey’s dance students and two specially commissioned pieces by Jean Johnson-Jones, Lecturer in Dance Studies, and by recent Surrey dance graduate Jo Read. Woking Dance Festival selected Jo for their ‘Emerging Associate Artist Scheme’ this year, and her Hip Hop piece, The North Wind and the Sun is her first Woking Dance Festival commission. Inspired by Aesop’s Fable, this hip-hop dance tale tells the story of a girl who gets caught in a game between the wind and the sun – an exciting family fun-filled dance
. Water Study, staged by Jean Johnson-Jones is an ensemble piece designed for ten female dancers, a reconstruction of a famous work by Doris Humphrey.
