DAY 3 OF GUILDFORD INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL

MAUREEN & MARYLEEN’S RECITAL
Pre-concert talk 6.30pm - 7pm

Maureen and Maryleen talk about the process of performance and painting prior to this evening’s event.

  --------------------

MAUREEN GALEA and MARYLEEN SCHILTKAMP

A wonderful collaboration between two artists through the medium of music and live painting. Prizewinning pianist Maureen Galea has established herself as an expert in the field of Bohemian music and has performed in concerts around the world as a soloist, in chamberensembles and as accompanist. Maryleen is a visual artist who has exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide. She has performed in festivals in Prague and London, and is the subject of a new British documentary. Fascinated by the visual parallels of musical movement and colour relating to sound, Maryleen will respond to Maureen’s performance with action-painting during this recital.

In addition to the live music painting, there will be an exhibition of a number of oil paintings by Maryleen Schiltkamp inspired by Czech pieces being played at the recital. There will also be the opportunity to purchase these paintings.

This programme will include music by Czech composers Vorisek, Novak, Kapralova, Tomasek and Suk.
