Music Ensembles
University Orchestra
The University Orchestra is open to all University of Surrey students and staff via auditions (see details below). Rehearsing every Tuesday evening during semester, the Orchestra performs three concerts a year. The repertoire and performances this year will include Tchaikovsky's Symphony no. 4, Orff's Carmina Burana, Vaughan-Williams' Five Mystical Songs and J. Strauss' Die Fledermaus Overture. The first concert will be at St Saviour's Church in Guildford on Saturday19th November. The University Orchestra is directed by Russell Keable, Head of Conducting in the Department of Music and Sound Recording.
Auditions:
Auditions for 2011-12 Orchestra and Chamber Choir are now closed. Auditions for the 2012-13 season will take place in the first week of October 2012.
[Signing up is required in order to audition, sign up sheets can be found in the PATS Lower Foyer.
Ideally you should bring a short piece to play (or sing) and you'll be expected play a scale and some sight reading too.

University Choir
The University Choir has now finished for the 2011-12 season. It will start up again in October 2012.
The University Choir is a lively and fun Choir open to all University of Surrey staff and students. A basic level of sight reading, an ability to hold a tune and enthusiasm is all we ask for. University Choir rehearse every Wednesday evening from 6pm-8pm in PATS Studio One and perform 2-3 times a year. In November the choir will be performing with the University Orchestra in Vaughan-Williams' Five Mystical Songs and Orff's Carmina Burana in February at Guildford Cathedral.
University Chamber Choir
The Chamber Choir rehearse each Tuesday Lunchtime 1pm-2.30pm and perform at a wide range of engagements throughout the year. For audition information, see 'Auditions' in the University Orchestra section. The first concert will be held at St Bartholomew's Chuch in Haslemere on Friday 11th Novemeber.
University String Orchestra
A student led music ensemble within the Department of Music and Sound Recording. The University String Ensemble is open to all students and staff who play a stringed instrument.
USSU Ensembles
Society's run by the student union can be found here under 'Arts Societies'. They include Big Band, Gospel Choir and Presha.
GSA Singers
The GSA Singers are a company of performers from GSA [Guildford School of Acting] selected from the 2nd year Musical Theatre and Acting courses formed specifically to provide entertainment for business functions, private parties and concerts. They have also been requested to sing at weddings, memorial services and Masonic evenings and are quite diverse in their ability to perform material for any given event. Their wide repertoire offers songs from Musical Theatre and popular classics.
