The twelfth Guildford International Music Festival springs into life in March bringing new artists and programmes and welcoming back some Festival friends and favourites. For two majestically musical weeks, the spotlight shines brightly on Guildford as the University works with local partners to mix a delicious sonic cocktail of concerts, talks, community projects and more.

The Brodsky String Quartet, The Wheel of 4Tunes – a spin of the wheel results in a perfect programme!

Guitar Greats – a weekend of recitals, talks and workshops, featuring John Williams, Craig Ogden, Gary Ryan, Thomas Leeb, John Wheatcrof, and friends.

The London Community Gospel Choir – joyous, uplifting voices in Guildford Cathedral.

Dance and the Digital – choreographer Yael Flexer showcases her choreographic credentials in a new show, Weightless (see here), and emerging artists Sian Goldby (choreographer) and sound artist (Sandy Dobson) encourage playful interaction with their Protocol Project.

The Dhol Foundation – one of the highlights of the Olympics Closing Ceremony, these astounding drummers and musicians bring a one-off, high energy show to the Festival.

The Symphonova Concert – a truly unique orchestral event.

Music and Words – Janacek’s Intimate Letters at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, with the actor Timothy West and the stunning Pavao String Quartet.

Piano Plus! – a closing day of pianistic passion with Mark Bebbington, Emilie Capulet, Maureen Galea and Margaret Roberts.

Red Priest – the virtuosic early music group’s new show Handel in the Wind.

There is also a full programme at The Electric Theatre, including a specially curated music documentary film series, the unique folk group Spiro, comedian Boothby Graffoe, theatre show Silly Songs of Shakespeare, as well as performances at GLive, Guildford Cathedral and new Guildford Fringe events at the Boileroom and pubs around the town.
