Speakers

Philip Thomas (Huddersfield)
David Gorton (Royal Academy of Music)
Richard Wistreich (Royal Northern College of Music)
Tim Garland (RNCM)

The panel represents a wide range of practices from early music to experimental music and jazz. The aim of the event is to range over this varied terrain, taking stock of current approaches and debating future directions through discussions and practical demonstrations.

The day will include a lunchtime concert featuring the ensemble Bash-O who explore the area where composition and improvisation overlap. Bash-O will be joined by Tim Garland (saxophones) and Philip Thomas (piano), integrating a new work by Matthew Sansom into the programme.
