In this concert at the Surrey Piano Weekend we explore the exciting world of new music for piano duo.
For the David Lovatt award final, student composers were set the challenge of writing for two pianos, which will be performed by Rolf Hind and Clive Williamson, two pianists at the centre of London's thriving new music scene, and who both perform regularly across the world.
Rolf Hind's prodigious playing has attracted acclaim wherever he has performed: he has appeared many times as a soloist at the BBC Proms and is a regular contributor to many festivals of new music across the globe.
Clive Williamson has a firm reputation as one of the UK's most distinguished and sought-after ensemble players. He appears regularly with ensembles such as the London Sinfonietta, and has collaborated with leading composers such as Steve Reich, Peter Maxwell Davies and Jonathan Harvey.
The concert will conclude with a performance of Rolf Hind's Sunnata for six pianos (ranging from a Steinway concert grand to a honky-tonk upright), played by the composer and a number of students and recent graduates from the University of Surrey.
