Here is a rare chance to hear the complete Mikrokosmos in an informal open-door concert, performed by staff and students from the University, pupils of local schools and many other contributors.
Originally written as a progressive teaching resource by Bartok for his son, the 153 short pieces that make up Mikrokosmos are an absolute delight and a pedagogical resource which are second to none.
These pieces are approachable and melodic: they draw on Bartok's extensive research into Balkan folk music and range from engagingly simple melody lines to fast-paced and exhilarating concert pieces.
