A Day in the Life of the Beatles – photographs by Michael Ward and Hamburg Days – limited edition prints by Klaus Voorman
Genesis Publications, publishers of limited edition books since 1974 and creators of The Beatles multiaward- winning book, Anthology, celebrate 50 years of The Beatles with an exhibition of unseen Beatles photos and drawings. The exhibition marks the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ first appearances at Liverpool’s Cavern Club, in 1961.
An archive of rare images by celebrated photo-journalist Michael Ward are shown alongside fine art prints by Klaus Voorman, who himself played bass with the band during their early days in Hamburg.
On the day The Beatles were informed they had secured their first number one with Please Please Me, Ward spent 24 hours photographing the band, culminating in a gig at Liverpool’s Cavern club. Ward always downplayed his role in documenting the final moments before Beatlemania took hold. ‘It’s all really very simple – I just happened to be there.’ Also on display are commissioned works by fine artist Klaus Voorman, famed for his Beatles’ Revolver and Anthology album sleeves. Paul McCartney helped inspire Klaus to create a series of paintings and sketches depicting the band’s early years in Hamburg, 1960-63. ‘Klaus’s “memory drawings” are not only beautiful drawings in themselves,’ McCartney says, ‘they capture the spirit of the times.’
