Chlorine Irradiation of Cells
Thursday 23 June 2011
The first use of a chlorine beam to irradiate living cells has been performed at the IBC
First use of a chlorine beam to irradiate living cells in medium using the Surrey Vertical Nanobeam. A 12 MeV chlorine 5+ beam was used to irradiate V79 and human fibroblast cells in order to study the DNA repair mechanism of cells when irradiated with heavy ions, and to study the efficiency of single ion hit detection for heavy ions.
