1st Use of Focussed Carbon Ions in Vertical Beamline

Thursday 18 August 2011

In a series of experiments designed to test a new single ion hit detection system for ions heavier than helium, a 6 MeV Carbon beam was focussed to < 5um, and used to irradiate individually targeted V79 cells.

. This is the first use of a carbon beam in the Surrey Vertical Nanobeam. Ions now used include: H, He, Li, C, O, Cl.
