Analog circuits and devices are very much part of modern electronics, but due to added difficulties compared to digital, research into analog device design is not attempted by many groups.
After a brief introduction to some of the target performance characteristics, I show the suitability of Source-Gated Transistors (SGT) to power-efficient, high-amplification large-area electronic circuits. The second part of the presentation moves away from conventional polysilicon technology to emerging low-cost fabrication techniques in which the SGT allows increased uniformity of electrical characteristics over a large area. Finally, I briefly describe SGT-type devices which have been made by ATI research students in other semiconductor systems.
