Dr Julie Howarth

Research Interests

I perform a supporting collaborative role within the Faculty particularly within the area of histopathology and haematology primarily within the field of toxicology. Our focus has been to understand the role of cell type-specific xenobiotic metabolism in localised toxicity and sites of injury and the investigation of possible interactions of xenobiotics particularly those that affect the thyroid.

In the areas of histopathology, haematology, toxicology:

• MSc Toxicology Modules: TOXM003, TOXM006, TOXM007, TOXM008, TOXM009 TOXM010
• BSc and MSc Research Project Supervision
• Postgraduate research - Training in histological techniques

•        Programme Director for the MSc Programme in Toxicology - a full-time programme that has been running since 1973. I'm always happy to hear updates from our graduates.

•        Secretary to the Board of Studies, MSc in Toxicology

•        Secretary to the Board of Examiners, MSc in Toxicology

•        Chair of the External Advisory Board for the MSc in Toxicology

•        member of the Faculty Biosciences Course Board and Examiners' Boards for BSc Degrees

•        member of the Faculty’s Postgraduate Teaching Committee

•        I undertake UCAS interviews and PTY visits

•        Personal tutor to BSc and MSc students

•        Chair of the Board of Examiners for the MSc Applied Toxicology

•        Projects Co-ordinator Module M00P for the MSc in Toxicology and Module Co-ordinator for TOX M007, TOXM008 and TOXM009.

•        Responsibility for the Faculty’s Histopathology facility.
