Impact Acceleration Account

The EPSRC Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) follows on from the University of Surrey’s successful Knowledge Transfer Account (KTA) and is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).

Originally running for three years from October 2012 until September 2015, the Surrey IAA has now been awarded additional funding to continue until March 2017. The first phase of the project supported 45 projects across 37 different strands of activity.

“The objective of the IAA has been to provide short-term pump priming support to bridge the funding gap between research and potential commercialisation, often referred to as the ‘valley of death’. Funding from the IAA has been a key element in exploiting research, with many of the projects going on to secure additional funding to support the activity along the road to commercialisation”.

Prof Michael Kearney – Vice President and Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research & Innovation; Principal Investigator

The University has recently produced a review of it's IAA, which features case studies of projects funded between October 2013 and September 2015. The review is titled ‘Impacting Lives’ - you can download a copy, or view an online version
