Raising My Profile At Surrey
We are often asked about how to raise a company profile amongst the student body. We have the following suggestions. If you would like to discuss any of these, or have suggestions of your own, please contact Cathryn Jobson on 01483 689156, c.jobson@surrey.ac.uk.
Networking Evenings
We run a range of networking evenings when we invite speakers from different sectors to talk briefly about their career to date, and to give students tips on getting in and on their sector. Evenings have included: Working in an SME, Working in Technology, Careers for Psychologists, Careers for Lawyers, Careers for Scientists, Careers in the Film and Game Industry and Starting your own Business. There is no charge for participating in these events.
Before You Go Week
During the last week of the academic year we welcome organizations who still have vacancies to fill to give presentations, interviews and workshops to those of our students who are looking for work.
During this week we also host a mini fair for recruitment agencies.
There is no charge for participating in these events.
Campus interviews
We will always be pleased to arrange campus interviews as and when employers feel they have received enough applications from our students to warrant a visit.
Informal Drop–in Sessions and Focus Groups
An excellent way to introduce your company to a small number of students without the formality and time commitment involved in a presentation.
There is a small administrative charge of £30, to include room hire, for arranging these sessions.
Skills sessions
We offer the students a range of skills sessions on subjects such as interview technique, making applications and assessment centres as well as training in networking and communication for example. We welcome employer participation in these events. There is no charge for participating in these events.
Becoming a mentor
We are piloting a scheme to arrange mentoring to students with a disability. You would need to be able to meet the student up to 6 times in a year to offer them support, guidance and an insight into the world of work. You would also need to undertake 1 days training in becoming a mentor, at the university.
Practice Interviews
We consider these to be of great benefit to our students and they are always well attended .
Business Game
Running such a session is a high profile and often fun way of making contact with students.
Manning a stand
We can arrange for you to have space for a stand in our lecture theatre complex to enable you to make informal contact with our students as they proceed to lectures.
Case Studies
We would welcome contact with Surrey graduates in your employ who would be prepared to complete our case study questionnaire. The case studies will be available on our website and in the Careers Library and would act as an inspiration and guide to current students
Ambassadors on Campus
We have noticed that attendance at events is greatly improved for those employers who hire a student to act as their ambassador in the lead up to the event. We are happy to facilitate this arrangement by advertising the post and arranging interview facilities as well as acting as a central contact for you.
Podcasts and presentation slides
After your presentation we are happy to upload your slides and podcasts( provided they are compatible with our system) onto our website.
