Further Study

About 20% of Surrey graduates undertake further study every year. The type of study they undertake includes Postgraduate Certificates in Education (PGCEs), Diplomas, Masters and Doctorates. These range in length from 9 months to three years or more.

They tend to fulfill different purposes. Some are essential as a route to a chosen profession, eg a PsychD as the required qualification for a career in clinical psychology. Others may be helpful in achieving a career goal, eg a PhD as a prelude to a research position. Some you might undertake entirely for personal interest, eg a Masters in an area related to your first degree.

This section will hopefully help you to think through your reasons for undertaking further study, will show you where to look for opportunities and will provide some information on funding.

It may also help you to discuss your ideas and/or plans with a Careers Adviser. Simply email careers@surrey.ac.uk , ring 01483 689001, or, if it is convenient to do so, call in to the Careers Service to make an appointment.
