Careers Advice for staff
All staff: We provide confidential guidance interviews for all staff. Contact us to arrange a mutually convenient time. We will help where we can; our expertise is with people at the beginning of their career or considering a change into a different area. We have less experience with development issues for those in mid-career wishing to stay in the same field of work
Contract research staff and PhD students: The above services are also available to contract research staff. In addition, a specialist service for these groups is provided. For more information please visit Surrey Researchers webpage and/or contact Ann Henderson, Careers Adviser on 01483 689949 or a.henderson@surrey.ac.uk
Information for Staff
The Careers Service carries out the annual Destinations Survey of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE). Data from this survey is used to compile league tables and performance indicators. The results from this survey are linked from this page.
Services for your students
The Careers Service actively promotes to employers the value of offering placements and details of placement opportunities sent to us are passed to our placement contacts in Schools. We offer a focused careers briefing to subject groups at the start of their last year at university. We can also provide sessions for students in their second year, preparing for placement. Contact us to discuss your requirements. We offer all students, at any stage in their course, confidential one-to-one individual careers interviews. We aim to put students in touch with potential employers through vacancy listings, via this site for current students and by email after they have left. Companies wishing to recruit graduates run a series of presentations on campus. During the first and second semester we run a full range of workshops and briefing sessions aimed at helping students develop their skills in career planning. At the end of the final semester we organise a “Before You Go” week, another chance to attend workshops and briefing sessions, often run by graduate recruiters.
Services for your students no longer at the University
We support students after they have left this university, without limit of time and free of charge. We can respond to their needs by e-mail, by phone or they may choose to return for a face-to-face interview. They are also able to attend the workshops and presentations that are run throughout the year.
