About Us

Welcome to the web pages for the Division of Civil, Chemical and Environmental Engineering.

We offer strong professionally accredited BEng and MEng undergraduate programmes in Civil and Chemical Engineering supported by a range of well equipped laboratories and computing facilities. In the 2009 National Student Survey, our programmes topped the national league table for overall satisfaction achieving an impressive 98% score.

With strong industrial links, the option of a fully integrated year of professional training, and many industry sponsored scholarships, our graduates enjoy excellent employment prospects in the construction, energy and process engineering sectors, amongst many others.

Our suite of versatile, highly successful MSc postgraduate programmes cover the subject areas of bridge, civil and structural engineering, water and environmental engineering, transport planning, environmental strategy/management and sustainable development, process and information systems engineering, renewable energy and petroleum refinery systems engineering.

We collaborate with a wide range of professional bodies and industrial partners in different sectors, and participate in various policy setting and technical committees. Our research embraces an inter-disciplinary approach to the analysis of sustainable systems, aiming to integrate engineering-based approaches with insights from the social sciences, and actively pursuing collaborations which enhance the relevance and impact of our research output. Staff from the Division were part of Surrey’s highly successful RAE 2008 General Engineering return, which was ranked 8th nationally according to the Times Higher analysis.

Our Reputation

In the latest subject tables compiled for the 2012 entry, both Civil and Chemical Engineering have consolidated their ‘top 10’ position in all major University Guides.
