Research in the Division covers a wide range of areas including Water and Chemical Processing, through to multi-disciplinary themes such as Materials and Structures and Fluids and Vehicles which are conducted in close collaboration with colleagues in the division of Mechanical, Medical and Aerospace Engineering.

We are home to the internationally acclaimed centre of excllence on sustainable development, the Centre for Environmental Strategy (CES) and this is reflected in our strong research focus on environmental issues.

We are also joint winners of the Queen's Award for wide-ranging and global work improving access to safe drinking water and sanitation
