Introducing the world’s premier 5G Innovation Centre
Welcome to the temporary landing page of the 5G Innovation Centre (5GIC) – the research centre that will spearhead international research into the next generation of mobile communication technology.
October 2012 brought the exciting news of our funding application success, marking the beginning of a new era in the rapidly expanding area of global telecommunications research.
Thanks to the bid developed by the Centre for Communication Systems Research (CCSR) of the University of Surrey to UK Research Partnership Investment Fund (UKRPIF), we were awarded £35 million in funding from a combination of the HEFCE (Higher Education Funding Council for England) and a consortium of enthusiastic and forwarding-thinking mobile operators and infrastructure providers. Momentum is now building as we work to develop this state-of-the-art global research facility.
Through the 5GIC we will ultimately inspire international telecoms giants to conduct research and development in the UK, develop future-thinking communications technologies, influence and inform new standards in 5G, and develop a world-class test bed of 5G technologies.
