Friday 13 July 2012

The announcement was made by the European Commission’s Director of DG INFSO, Mario Campolargo, during the closing plenary of Aalborg’s FIA event.

The Centre for Communication Systems Research (CCSR) has been involved in the Earth Project which purpose was for developing energy efficiency solutions for wireless communication networks.

Professor Rahim Tafazolli and Dr Muhammad Imran jointly co-ordinated a team of CCSR researchers who were involved in this project. In particular, the European researchers involved in this project have optimised the energy use of 4G/LTE (Long-Term Evolution) base stations, which account for the highest energy consumption in the mobile network

Chosen as the clear winner during the Award competition, the Earth Project received much commendation from the Award’s distinguished Judging Panel.

Industrial and SME partners have already started to transfer the project’s results into real products for the multi-billion euro global market for 4G products.

Congratulations to all those involved in the project.
