Research and Scholarship
The University of Surrey puts both research and learning/teaching at the centre of its overall mission, and CEAD plays a very active role in the advancement of pedagogical thinking and practice.
The overall aims are:
- To support the understanding and enhancement of current and future pedagogical practices, and policies through rigorous reflections on the student learning experience, within complex pedagogical contexts;
- To assist with the promotion of practice that is both evidence and theory informed,and evidence and theory generating so that it contributes to the teaching and learning reputation of the University, both nationally and internationally;
- To recognise and encourage the pedagogical interests and qualities of staff across the university through the creation of a research and scholarly culture that is mindful, supportive and respectful of both individual and group efforts, disciplinarity and inter-disciplinarity;
- To promote the effective cross-fertilization of scholarly pedagogical experiences and expertise across the University so that the most interesting and forward looking practice becomes both visible and, whenever possible, transferable, in and among disciplinary domains;
- To assist the University with becoming a centre of excellence in pedagogical research and scholarship, both nationally and internationally, thus making educational research one further quality area at Surrey.
