Papers Awarded the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), Howard Medal and Frederick Palmer Prize for 2011

Papers co-authored by Professor Mark Lawson have been awarded the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Howard Medal and Frederick Palmer Prize for 2011.

Howard Medal

The ICE Howard Medal was awarded for the journal Construction Materials paper entitled: ' Durability of Light Steel Framing in Residential Applications'. The paper was written with 4 other authors from industrial and academic companies, including The Steel Construction Institute and represents the results of 15 years of data collection on the long term performance of buildings. The Howard prize is awarded for the best paper on metals related research in the various ICE journals in 2010.

Frederick Palmer Prize

Prof Mark Lawson and Jane Richards of consultants WSP won the Frederick Palmer prize for their paper in ICE Structures and Buildings called ' Modular Design for High-rise Buildings' .The paper is based on the next generation of tall modular buildings and addresses some of the structural issues related to this new building technology. The prize is awarded to one of the best general papers in an ICE journal.

The prizes will be awards at The Institution of Civil Engineers on 24 October 2011
