Under Graduate Bridge Competition

The first year students on the undergraduate degree programmes Civil Engineering displayed their bridge design and modelling skills in the final week before the Christmas Break.
The competition was to build a bridge using cardboard and string which could carry 6kg and span over 1m with minimal deflection. The contest was sponsored by Kier and the final testing session with Professor Marios Chryssanthopoulos (pictured below) was attended by Graham Boyle and Tracey Buchan from Kier.

The winning bridges were selected on the basis of the design ideas, the quality of the construction and effectiveness of performance. Congratulations go to the first prize winners, Alex Webb and Ben Durkin pictured below:
