President of the Institution of Civil Engineers visits South East England

Monday 20 June 2011

ICE president Peter Hansford was the guest speaker in the debate on Friday 17th June in Reading on “the future for civil engineering when university tuition fees are £9k a year” organized by ICE South East England – Thames Valley Branch.

The other speakers were Terry Fuller from Jacobs who gave the employer’s perspective, James Conway who gave the graduates and students perspective and John Wright from the University of Surrey.

The debate was very successful with large participation from students, academics and practicing engineers who studied at the University of Surrey. According to the ICE president Peter Hansford “the scholarship scheme run at the University of Surrey is the best example of how Universities, Industry and the ICE can work together to bring better prepared graduates”.

We would like to thank everybody who contributed to the debate.
