Monday 23 May 2011

A paper co-authored by Professor Matt Leach has been awarded the Institution of Civil Engineers Baker Prize for 2011.

“UK microgeneration. Part II: technology overviews” , published in ICE’s Energy journal, assesses the current status of microgeneration technologies at the domestic scale, outlining their strengths and weaknesses and providing a rare up-to-date review of their performance and potential. The paper has been awarded the Baker medal, third best prize overall in ICE's annual Awards for Papers competition. On nominating the paper, ICE journal Energy said that it was a “wide-ranging assessment by an impressive team that is to be referenced as a definitive study and as a guide to future progress.”

The study was co-authored by a large group of researchers, from a variety of UK Universities.  “UK microgeneration. Part II: technology overviews”  is the second paper in a series from the UK Energy Research Centre’s cross-theme research project on microgeneration. “UK microgeneration. Part I: policy and behavioural aspects” provides a critical review of the literature relating to government policy and behavioural aspects relevant to the uptake and application of microgeneration in the UK.
