The Braithwaite Family Foundation PhD studentship in Civil Engineering

Applications are invited from candidates interested in pursuing research leading to a PhD in any field of Civil Engineering. The University of Surrey has a long and distinguished tradition in Civil Engineering, with notable research contributions in Water and Environmental Engineering, Structural Engineering, Geotechnics and Construction Materials.

Current research is aimed at key challenges in the following areas:

- Air Quality
- Climate Change Adaptation
- Durability and Deterioration
- Environmental Fluids
- Infrastructure Engineering
- Innovative Construction Materials
- Reliability and Resilience of Civil Engineering Systems
- Soil Mechanics
- Water and Wastewater Treatment

A good undergraduate degree (First or Upper Second) in Engineering, Physical Sciences or Mathematics is required. Work experience and/or a post-graduate qualification would be desirable.

The scholarship covers UK/EU fees (£3,732 in 2011/12) or equivalent for three years, together with a maintenance stipend of £1,000 per month.
