Also on the podium presenting his highly commended paper on transporting tunnel boring machines was Chris Hickman who graduated from the University of Surrey in 2010 to Kier Construction, pictured below.
The panel was chaired by senior Crossrail representatives, who spoke very highly of the quality of the papers in this their first competittion. In the audience where a number of surrey students and graduates supporting their colleagues, these included graduates from Keller, Kier, Bam Nuttall, Tony G and Partners and Atkins.
Bob Griffiths attended on behalf of the Department and thanked the organisers for given the young engineers the chance to showcase their work and talents. He was delighted that the first prize went to a Surrey undergraduate in engineering and that he had visited both Richard and Christopher during their training periods with the University.
The Crossrail industry and the paper presenters celebrated after the formalities which proved to be a valuable networking opportunity and a chance for our graduates to meet with their successors.
