Professional Training Year

In Civil and Environmental Engineering there are exciting opportunities for Professional Training placements. Students are placed with a broad range of Civil and Environmental Engineering companies across the breadth of the profession in the UK and overseas.

Over 30 of the leading Civil and Environmental Engineering companies employ our students on placement and which are often linked with both scholarship and sponsorship opportunities. The Professional Training period is normally taken between the second and third years of the MEng and BEng Civil Engineering degree programmes and therefore is ideally placed to provide invaluable engineering experience working on real projects. Students are able to target and work toward professional and personal development goals whilst on placement and prior to graduating.

Hong Kong is one of the more exotic locations for Civil and Environmental Engineering Professional Training Placements and is home to over 50 of our Alumni.  The students are placed with Arup and are involved in the design of high rise buildings (typically 50 storeys and higher).  During his visit in August 2012 Colin Howard (Director of Civil and Environmental Engineering Programmes and Senior Prof Training Tutor) met up with alumni from 1983 to 2007
