Young Ambassadors get Surrey Dancing
Thursday 19 July 2012
Four Surrey students have been involved in the delivery of dance workshops to primary school children, teaching them the dance routine for the flashmob which will be performed as part of ‘Celebrate Woking’ an initiative linked with Woking Borough Councils ‘Party in the Park’ taking place on 7 July.
The Surrey volunteers have also been involved with a wide range of tasks including promotion for the event, setting up dance areas, supporting back stage artists as well as managing crowds and performance spaces.
The Young Ambassadors Scheme gives young people interested in the arts an opportunity to get involved with Woking Dance Festival and develop their skills to become creative artists.
Alice Jackson, one of the student ambassadors for the event, said ‘The scheme was recommended by one of my tutors, I knew it would be a great opportunity to gain an insight into how a dance organisation is run, as I hope to pursue a career in dance management.’
Big Dance 2012 is a national initiative set up by the Mayor of London, with the aim to get Britain Dancing. Woking Dance Festival is leading on Big Dance South East with ‘Party in the Park’ an exciting and jam packed celebration of dance with over 50 performances featuring work by professional dance companies, local dance artists, community groups and schools that shows the quality and diversity of dance on offer locally.
The event is taking place at Woking Park on July 7 from 12pm to 7pm, for more information visit www.wokingdancefestival.co.uk or to volunteer email sam@wokingdancefestival.co.uk.
