On your marks, get set…

Friday 20 July 2012

More than 30 Surrey students and members of staff are set to play their part volunteering or working at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Many have won places as London 2012 Games Makers, volunteers who have been integral to both Summer and Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games since they were used for the first time at London 1948.

Roles they are undertaking include assisting at the beach volleyball competition at Horse Guards Parade, being a lifeguard at the London Aquatics Centre, assisting at the London 2012 Paralympic wheelchair tennis and being a scoreboard operator at the rowing competition.

There will also be Surrey staff and students working in hospitality and in event services to ensure visitors to London 2012 are given a really warm welcome.

‘London 2012 presents a fantastic opportunity for Surrey students and staff to showcase their talents at the world’s premier sporting occasion,’ says Paul Blanchard, Chief Executive of Surrey Sports Park. ‘And it gives us a chance here at the University and at Surrey Sports Park to share news of their success and to celebrate it.’
