Surrey Sports Park launches Olympic Legacy with Join In UK

Friday 31 August 2012

Over 300 people enjoyed two days of free sport at Surrey Sports Park last weekend as the Olympic legacy was kicked off with the help of Join In UK.

Thousands of people across the country took part in various free sports sessions and activities, using the spirit of London 2012 to encourage the UK to get active.

Surrey Sports Park saw over 300 people visit across the two-day event to take part in a range of free sessions including table tennis, squash, football, tennis and expert coaching from Guildford Heat Basketball Club.

Paul Blanchard, CEO of Surrey Sports Park, said: “With Guildford still buzzing after the London 2012 Olympic Games and the upcoming Paralympics, it was the perfect time to get people off their sofas and into sport.  Providing free opportunities to try something new or get active with friends inspires long term commitment to sport, which is what the Games are all about.

“Thankfully, we were blessed with some excellent weather too which made for a great weekend of sport at Surrey Sports Park!”

Join In Local Sport is managed and run by the registered charity ‘The Join In Trust Limited’ and was set up to encourage every sports club or community group in the UK to get involved with a weekend of sport to capture the enthusiasm created by London 2012.
