Surrey Sports Park hosts Olympic Celebration

Tuesday 9 October 2012

Almost 2 months to the date which the 2012 Olympic Games kicked off in London, Surrey Sports Park hosted an event recently to celebrate the County’s part played in the spectacular Games.

The event, held by Surrey County Council, saw a number of special guests from around Surrey invited to Surrey Sports Park for an exhibition by various community groups, charities and companies which played a part in the success of London 2012.

Among the guests were track cycling gold medallist Joanna Rowsell (pictured), Guildford torchbearer Adelle Tracey who lit the Torch at the Olympic Opening Ceremony, and Moscow 1982 gold medallist and University of Surrey employee Allan Wells.

Guests enjoyed a welcome reception and drinks, followed by a number of inspirational discussions and presentations from individuals involved in different aspects of the Games.

Paul Blanchard, CEO of Surrey Sports Park, said: “We (SSP) hosted a number of Olympic and Paralympic nations in the run up to the Games so holding such an event to celebrate the County’s involvement is just another string to our bow in what has been an amazing summer for ourselves and the community.”
