Ian Christie, will present the following seminar: 'Moving Mountains?' The potential role of religions and faith communities in sustainable development.
Sustainable development movements in the West have largely overlooked the world of religion and faith communities. But most of the global population has some form of religious affiliation, and we are living in a great age of religious expansion. Whatever sustainable development advocates and practitioners think of this, it is a reality to be faced. What are the potential gains for sustainable development from deeper engagement with religion, and what are the barriers and pitfalls? This seminar draws on MOVING MOUNTAINS, a new Green Futures magazine special report on faiths and sustainability, and on research carried out in 2009 in development of the Church of England's sustainable development vision and strategy, Church and Earth (Church House: London, 2009).
