Professor Tim Jackson re-appointed Government Commissioner for Economics
Thursday 1 April 2010
The Sustainable Development Commission (SDC) is the UK Government's official advisory body on sustainability, reporting formally to the Prime Minister.
Professor Tim Jackson, of the University of Surrey, was initially appointed as Economics Commissioner on the SDC in March 2004 and has already served two three-year terms, contributing to the UK SD Strategy and the Sustainable Consumption Round Table during the first term and leading the Commission's work on Redefining Prosperity during the second.
This work culminated in him writing the Commission’s controversial and groundbreaking study, which was later revised and updated for publication as Prosperity without Growth - economics for a finite planet (Earthscan 2009).
Professor Jackson commented: " I am absolutely delighted to have this opportunity to continue my work with the SDC", said Prof Jackson. "The last few years have been extremely productive and incredibly exciting. The next year or so will also be an absolutely critical one for sustainable development as we approach the Rio plus 20 conferences in 2012."
