Vice-Chancellor’s Teaching Excellence Award

Dr Walter Wehrmeyer, Reader in the Centre for Environmental Strategy has been awarded the 2011 Vice-Chancellor’s Teaching Excellence Award.
The award seeks to recognise and reward staff engaged in innovative approaches to curriculum development and enhancing the student experience and is an integral part of the Surrey Learning and Teaching Strategy.
Professor Gill Nicholls, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic and chair of the selection panel noted the strength of the field which included applicants from all Faculties from which a short list of five candidates were drawn for further discussions about their approaches to teaching in an informal interview.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Chris Snowden confirmed his support for the panel’s decision and commented on Dr Wehrmeyer’s strong case for teaching excellence evidenced by a variety of innovative approaches to enhancing student learning, focussing on case-based teaching and sustained over a significant time period at the University of Surrey.
Dr Wehrmeyer will be presented with the award at the summer congregation ceremony for the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences.
The final shortlist also included Dr Naomi Winstone from the Faculty of Arts and Human Sciences, Drs Gabriel Cavalli and Ian Homerton from the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences and Dr Andrew Adcroft from the Faculty of Management and Law.
