BEYOND GROWTH/DEGROWTH
Tim Jackson, Professor of Sustainable Development at the Centre for Environmental Strategy (CES) and Director of the Sustainable Lifestyles Research Group speaks at London panel debate:
‘EUROPE BEYOND GROWTH?’ From material excess to human flourishing
The Green European Journal was organising a discussion linked to its 3rd edition next month in London. The event featured GEJ authors, as well as leading experts on alternative economics. The event has been organised with the support of UK-based think-tank Green House.
The 3rd edition of the Green European Journal was titled 'Beyond growth/degrowth'. It asked what the green response to the question of economic growth should be. Can growth be continued? Is this a debate even worth having? A range of experts approached these questions from a variety of perspectives. Maurie J Cohen asked whether the economic crisis has already pushed western economies into a post-growth scenario; two Finnish thinkers argued that markets can be made work for a green economy; and we published an inspirational story of local, alternative economics in London.
