Vacancy for a Post-doctoral Research Fellow: Modelling for Food Security & Sustainability
Friday 15 March 2013
Applications are invited for a three year post-doctoral research position for a food specialist with an ability to develop models. The post will be affiliated to the Centre for Environmental Strategy (CES) and will be part of the Evolution and Resilience of Industrial Ecosystems (ERIE) project team based at the University of Surrey.
The successful candidate will develop model(s) that explore the security and sustainability of food supply. The model(s) will be designed to investigate causes and dynamics of 'hotspots' of risk and environmental impacts in food supply chains, and possible interventions. A key feature of the ERIE project is engagement with policy-makers, to help them think through system complexities and investigate implications of potential strategies: thus communication with policy-makers will be an important part of the post-holder's role.
Applicants must have a PhD in agriculture, food economics, food security or a related discipline, with experience in writing scientific papers for publication in journals. An interest in modelling is essential and previous experience in system approaches is highly desirable. Excellent communications skills are essential.
In addition to being a member of the ERIE team, the successful candidate will also be affiliated to the Centre for Environmental Strategy (CES).
Salary range: from £29,541 to £30,424 per annum
Closing date: Monday 15th April 2013
