Academics from Malaysia visit Department

Researchers from the Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia, are visiting the Chemistry Department.

The Natural Products Group has been hosting Dr Rohaya Ahmad (front row, second from right) and her PhD student, Mrs Fatima Salim (front row 4th from right). Dr Ahmad is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Shah Alam, Malaysia. Dr Ahmad has been with UiTM since 1986 and has held positions including the Head of Postgraduate Studies (2007-2009) and the Deputy Dean (Students) (2010-2012) of the faculty. Her research interest is in the chemotaxonomy of the Rubiaceae, particularly the genus Uncaria. She is currently on a 12-month sabbatical leave with a 3-month attachment at FHMS working with the Natural Product Research Group pursuing her interest in circular dichroism (CD) studies. Fatima Salim’s PhD work is on the isolation of phytochemicals from Malaysian Uncaria longiflora var. pteropoda.
