Most technical people end up having to make pitches – explaining their work in order to secure the next round of funding - or to get technical work turned into real business. Sometimes you know you are going to have to pitch in a formal setting, but it can also be a spontaneous opportunity from a chance meeting.

Making a pitch is not something with which we all feel comfortable, but preparation and practice can help you get the most out of an opportunity.

This informal tutorial is aimed at PhD students and will present some techniques and pitfalls to help you prepare for that important moment. We’ll then give you a chance to try pitching, and offer some friendly comments to help you make your own pitch even better.
