Computers and software have played a huge if relatively unexpected role in my engineering career, in my three businesses (and in most other people’s), in my early 1970’s rugby club and in my life. I first saw a computer 43 years ago, I first used one 41 years ago (and helped build them) and hardware still hates me! But software, engineering in the head, opened the doors for my future.
The question is, what is today opening the doors for your future?
Nigel initially trained in electrical and software engineering and worked both in the UK and Germany in project management and marketing. He founded his own software company in 1987 and in 1995 the company, Pixology, developed its own digital imaging software products. Nigel later launched The Digital Camera Company as an internet-based camera retailer. Pixology floated on AIM in 2003 and Nigel stayed in a variety of roles until January 2006.
For the next two years Nigel was part-time COO at a Guildford-based software company in the film industry. He was also the founding Chairman and Business Champion of the SEEDA funded Surrey Enterprise Hub and is a Portfolio Director in the W Surrey & NE Hants (and the Thames Valley) Innovation and Growth Teams which support high growth potential businesses. Nigel is a trained business mentor and the Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the University of Surrey.
In 2008 Nigel launched a new company, Passionate Innovation, to facilitate, train and inspire people and organisations to build and run an innovation and creative thinking culture. He specialises in Open Innovation.
