Professor Anthony T. S. Ho of the University of Surrey, Department of Computing has beaten experts from the worlds of academia and industry to be awarded the 2006 Security award at the Institution of Engineering and Technology's annual Innovation in Engineering Awards. Professor Ho won for his work on digital watermarking software called StegMark ImageLite which prevents forgery of digital Images and documents on the Internet and from digital Imaging devices.
StegMark ImageLite is a patented digital watermarking software originated from research by DataMark Technologies (DMT) a University spin-out co-founded by Professor Ho in 1998. This software utilises advanced mathematical algorithms by combining security features of robust and fragile watermarks that can be easily incorporated imperceptibly into digital image assets to ensure their authenticity and copyright. Moreover, it can be customised to protect different digital image formats generated from imaging devices such as digital scanners and cameras.
