Lego MindStorms Robots with Java: BCS Young Professionals Workshop
Tuesday 6 November 2007
The next in the series of Young Professionals Group (YPG) workshops for the Guildford Branch of the British Computer Society (BCS) will explore Java Programming on the LEGO NXT Mindstorms brick. The session will take place on Tuesday 6th November 2007 at 18:30 in 39BB02, and has been organised by Chris Culnane and Roger Peel.
We will look at the use of threads and concurrency in the context of a robot, although the same principles can be applied to desktop Java. We are also hoping to have our walking robot actually walking!
This week's workshop will start with a presentation on threads and concurrency. We will show examples of using them on the desktop and also on the robot. The practical part of the workshop will involve an opportunity to experiment with the use of threads on the robot.
This will be the last workshop this semester. We will restart the BCS YPG Workshop series on Tuesday 15th January 2008.
Since this is our last workshop before Christmas we will have some mince pies available.
