EPSRC Grant for Coding Theory in Watermarking
Monday 23 April 2007
Dr. Hans Georg Schaathun has been awarded a project under the First Grant Scheme of EPSRC. The project will hire one Research Assistant for 2½ year, and the opening is expected to be advertised within three weeks.
Digital watermarking is used to embed messages in data files such as images. The embedded message can be used for copyright information, authentication, or even self-recovery of damaged images. Robust watermarking is designed to survive intentional tampering by an attacker, such as copyright pirate.
This project will use theory of error-correcting codes to improve robustness. Partly advanced techniques already known in other applications will be transferred to applications in watermarking. Furthermore, the project will develop a mathematical model for the coding problem in robust watermarking.
The project has a budget of a quarter of a million pounds. One research assistant will be hired. We plan advertising in May and deciding on a candidate in June, aiming to commence the project 1 August.
