6th Annual Computing Department PhD Conference: Call for Papers

Friday 18 April 2008

On Thursday 12th June, the Department will hold its 6th Annual PhD Conference. The conference celebrates the work of all of our PhD students through presentations and posters, recognising their valuable contribution to computer science research. A keynote speaker will present a motivational talk at the beginning of the event.

Call for Papers
The deadline for submissions to the 6th Annual Computing Department PhD Conference has been scheduled for Friday May 16th 2008.

The purpose of the conference is to give students an opportunity to experience a conference environment as well as providing a showcase of the current research being performed in the department.

Papers
All students are welcome to submit a paper to the conference. If you submit a paper you are not expected to also submit a poster.

You are free to submit a paper that has already been published or submitted at a different conference. New papers must be at least 2 pages and in a recognised format (e.g. IEEE, LNCS).

Each paper will result in an oral presentation that will be judged by a panel of guests. A prize will be awarded for the best presentation.

To submit a paper please email a PDF to Maggie Burton by the deadline.

Posters
The poster presentation segment is compulsory for all first year PhD students. All MSc and PhD students in other years are also welcome to present a poster. You are free to register a poster that has already been presented elsewhere. (It is expected that 1st year PhD students will use the same poster as that of the FEPS-wide poster contest on the 11th June.) Posters can be in any format and of any size.

Each poster will be judged by a panel of guests. A prize will be awarded for the best poster.

If you wish to present a poster you must register by emailing Maggie Burton by the deadline. You are not required to submit your poster in advance.

Please be reminded that active participation in department activities such as the PhD conference will be considered as one of the key factors in support of any application for funding for external activities such as conferences abroad.
