Editors' Notes
The Computing At School group (CAS) is a membership association run by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, and supported by Microsoft Research and other industry partners. It was created to support and promote the teaching of computer science and other computing disciplines in UK schools.
CAS aims to assist teachers in responding to the kinds of criticism raised, for example, by Council for Industry and Higher Education (CIHE) report "The Fuse" - that vital computing principles need to be taught, and taught well, in schools. "The Fuse" is a report published by the Council for Industry and Higher Education (CIHE) on the 8th September by a Task Force of academics and business leaders co-chaired by the University of Surrey’s Vice Chancellor Professor Chris Snowden.
Part of the challenge for CAS is to try to encourage greater uptake of Computing. The reasons behind falling numbers studying the subject are currently being explored in the Royal Society's study of Computing in Schools, expected to report in Winter 2011.
